USS is making deductions from my pension because I should be receiving SERPS in my State Pension
In the same month I received a letter from USS stating that as I paid into SERPS from 1978 -1980 I would be getting extra payments in my State Pension so they will be deducting £50 a month until I can produce a detailed statement from the DWP showing how my pension is calculated. This has been going on for over a year now. I argued the case that I was receiving the New State Pension introduced in 2016 calculated on my National Ins contributions but to no avail. The won't except any of the letters sent by the DWP last one clearly showing New State Pension £££ I am caught in the middle can any one give me advice where to take this next.

Do you have a written communication from USS stating exactly what it is they require? If not, ask them to provide it now. Send this to the DWP and ask them to supply the required breakdown.AnnieCannyScot said:I retired in 2015 on my 60th birthday to full pension from USS. I am female born after April 1953 so I received my State Pension on my 66th year 2021.

While that's happening (or if it's already happened), google on USS IDRP and the first thing you'll see in the search results is a link leading to a pdf explaining how to make a formal complaint about the matter.Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!1 -

USS is asking for details of how your "starting amount" for NSP was calculated on 6/4/16?
The DWP should be able to provide you with the figures used.
Two Calculations were done
Old Rules
NI years/30 (max) x £119.30 (Full Basic) + (Additional State Pension - Deduction for Contracting Out).
New Rules
{NI years/35 (max) x £155.65 (Full NSP)} - Contracted Out Pension Equivalent.
Your "starting amount" was the higher of the two.
After you retired from your University post in 2015, did you take up employment through which you paid (or were credited with) NI contributions?
Or receive NI credits in any other way?
You can obtain full details of your NI record.

Did you ever obtain a state pension forecast between 6/4/16 and the date you drew your SP?
