Looking this morning at fuel duties.
Roughly 55p duty plus 30p VAT. This is what the government makes on every litre of fuel. Taking 5p off is pathetic considering average cost now. If inflation is to come down, then a good start would be to halve the fuel duty. Perhaps Martin could petition for this

    Why would the government give up that revenue, it is needed to fund both the state and all the handouts.

    It would make little difference overall to people's cost of living whilst costing the state a lot, it would a pointless gesture.
