Solar FIT meter broken, requirements for repair/replace?

Just went to get a FIT meter reading and discovered the meter has died, or at least is doing a slow flash on and off of 888888. Checked all circuit breakers and connections and they seem fine. It's a ~10 year old installation that we inherited when we bought the property. My first question is can a regular electrician see to it or do I need to find a PV installer who can come out? My second question is can I be fairly confident that I'm still getting the benefit of the electricity generation at least for my own use in the meantime? Many thanks.

Maybe ring your FiT provider and ask them. Perhaps ask for e-mail confirmation if they say it's OK for a 'normal' sparky to replace it. Also good to speak to them and advise of most recent meter reading you have* and how things work to see if you have now lost income since last confirmed meter reading. And you need to tell them the new meter reference number.
I think these meters only cost about £30, and should be a quick job to change.
* You know, the last reading you took perhaps a few days ago, before the meter failed.Mart. Cardiff. 8.72 kWp PV systems (2.12 SSW 4.6 ESE & 2.0 WNW). 20kWh battery storage. Two A2A units for cleaner heating. Two BEV's for cleaner driving.
For general PV advice please see the PV FAQ thread on the Green & Ethical Board.1 -

Thank you that's very helpful. I have now managed to find the original commissioning/inspection paperwork and see that it was installed by New Energy Solutions in Cheshire, who seem to still be a thriving business, so I have contacted them to ask for a servicing and repair visit. If I can't get them out reasonably fast I'll look for an electrician just to see to the meter.

Unfortunately my FIT provider is SSE so ringing them is a lengthy and unfun process. I did find their T&C which says to notify them of any changes or modifications so I will do that by letter after it is sorted, I think. Very reassuring to hear the meter itself is not pricey and is a quick job, thank you!
