How do you manage your battery charge?

It very much depends on the size of your battery storage and your own usage.
If you have 5kwh or less, and use 20kwh a day then it makes sense probably to charge every night to see you overnight and early morning.
If you have a larger battery bank or a smaller usage it may make more sense not too.
I have a 20kwh array and use about 20kwh in summer, so from mid March to maybe start of October I don't charge off grid at all, I let solar do its thing.
Yes there will be the odd overcast week where I'll but some full price leccy, but by the same token, there are days when the house will use 5kw, and then there are days where the wife decides she wants everything machine washed, tumble dried and ironed and those days can be nearly 40kwh of usage.
A solar diverter, if you have a hot water tank, can be a good way of using any excess alsoWest central Scotland
