HGV Training + Funding Scheme options

Hi Everyone.

Last year the government announced bootcamps to allow people to train as HGV drivers.

However trying to get onto one is a whole different scenario.

A local company private HGV driver training business has instructors, trucks and tests available within the coming weeks.

But they are not part of the government bootcamp scheme, because they are busy and don't need the whole administrational nightmare of being part of the scheme.

The local job centre can fund a course, but they can only go through a panel of their partnered training providers and this particular company isn't part of that panel.

The job centre are estimating into Jan/Feb 2023 to be able to get onto a course which incidentally is the same forecast as most of the local HGV training centres.

The next issue is ( this is my eldest son by the way ) his HGV theory test will expire in May 2023 which means he will have to start from scratch.

Does anyone know of any funding schemes we can apply for? It seems to be a minefield with lots of outdated information.

Whether he can get a grant, career development type loan. Or is there some sort of adult education loan he could apply for, for this exact purpose - Passing a HGV test - Class 2 ( C )

He unfortunately lost his job 2 months ago.

He is 31 years old.

Cost of course is £1,500.00

We are hoping to find some funding somehow to enable him to join the local company mentioned so he can pass his test and go back into work.

Any advice, links etc will be very welcomed.

Thank you
