NI contributions updating

I want to make sure my NI contributions are up to date. I checked my state pension forecast a few times and it always shows NI contributions or amount to pay as 'not yet available' for last tax year 2021/22. I tried phoning but was on hold and gave up. When do the NI contributions records get updated each year?

Have you checked the PAYE bit of your Personal Tax Account to see if your employer was reporting your wages ok?

Mine never used to seem to get updated until around October, but that was before they introduced real time reporting for employers - I'm not sure if that's speeded up the end-of-year update process at all.

I need to make a voluntary contribution for last year and wanted to see how much I need to pay to get a 'full year' towards my state pension.

If you have not made any contributions for that year it is usually October when it updates, gives them a chance to reconcile all the contributions and then populate the gaps.

If you call them they may well be able to tell you how much you need to pay. I did in my last year before getting my state pension and they knew even though it wasn't visible to me. If you call at 8am usually you get through more quickly.
