Winning a holiday for someone else.

Hi

I would love to win a holiday for my parents but I noticed on a comp that it says that prizes are not transferable to someone else.  These were general t&c's for all sorts of comps for a magazine company, not just for the holiday one, but I wondered if anyone had any experience of winning a holiday and giving it to someone?  I don't like flying so wouldn't want to go myself.

Thanks

Make sure you get their permission first though - GDPR and all that

In many cases entering on behalf of someone else, not just for holidays, is also against T&Cs (probably unlikely to get caught)

I've had prizes that state in the t&c's that they're non transferable and had them transferred to my daughters. I guess it's down to the discretion of the prize provider. Prizes I've transferred have been gigs/event type things - admittedly not a holiday.

As my children are adults now I've often wondered if family holidays that state 2 adults and 2 children can be upgraded to four adults, even if it's at the expense of the prize winner, has anyone done this?

That's a kind thought, @artyannat. I agree with Lilaclion it's down to the prize-giver's discretion.

Here's one example of someone who was allowed to gift their holiday win to their mother-in-law:

Lovely when it happens, but risky to plan for at the time of entering.

Thanks for all your advice everyone  :)  I'll play safe for now and only enter ones that I'd be happy to go on if I can't work out a way for them to go.

I have been fortunate to win a few holidays that I have been allowed to transfer

If its direct family they tend to be fine in my experience but it is at discretion if the prize giver
  • I did win a holiday once but my husband got cancer I contacted them and they allowed me to select a family memeber  to take it . Much later they emailed me back and ask me how he was ( he had died) and they gave us another holiday ( of lesser value ) but it was so lovely.

Most companies are reasonable but if they say no you havent really lost anything.
I am a widow with kids, a teacher and an environmentalist ( so don’t want to fly) so  holidays are a hassle so I just  put family members details on the form.
