Ikea Pax Dimensions

Hi all. I am about to purchase some much needed wardrobes from Ikea but am struggling to understand which dimensions I need. In our previous rented accommodation the wardrobe rails were so high that my wife couldn't reach the rails to hang the clothes so we are trying to find the right height to hang the rail whilst ensuring there is actually enough space to hang clothes. We are trying to squeeze in as much as possible without ruining functionality,

I would very much appreciate any advise or peoples experiences with their own wardrobes on whether the heights below heights are suitable, e.g online they recommend 106cm just for shirts. Does the design / measurements below seem adequate?


My design so far includes:

- Wardrobe Height - 236cm
                 Length - 125cm & 75 cm (for 2 separate alcoves)
                 Depth - 58 cm 
          
- Rail Height above floor - 180cm (drawers below and storage space above)
- Height allowance for clothes  - 116cm & 93 cm
- Depth for open shelves - 30cm & 26 cm

Ikea are pretty trustworthy with their measurements.   IIRC the plan tells you which holes to put your KOMPLEMENT items in at, but I highly recommend starting from the bottom as you can see what you're working on and can start stacking. 

With shelves, you really need to measure any important items that need a specific height, but it's no real hassle to move things around if it doesn't quite work.  The proof is in the pudding when you start filling it! 

We have 5.5m and I was able to fit in an extra shoe shelf but also realised I needed more long hanging, so moved a couple of drawers around.

Yes, that looks great.

Do you by any chance know the distance of your hanging rails from the floor, and the height of your rails for the clothes?

The pax heights are pretty adjustable, so you can choose at the point of assembly the height you want - although I'm of fairly average height (5'6/5'7) I opted to have the upper rail moved up (above my head) so I could have a second lower rail below.

I just had a couple of garments of different lengths ready for testing purposes when we set the rail heights

The rail on ours is 180 from the base of the wardrobe, 185 from the floor.  90cm hanging space.

Our PAX whuch is years old has fixing holes every 2cm or so to aid adjustment.

The beauty of PAX is you are free to refit the internals as suits you, so you can adjust to your heart's content and squeeze drawers together, or spread them out - move shelves, move the racks.  The only thing that restricts some placement of shelves and drawers are the hinges if you have hinged doors, as they occupy a few holes at the front so you must install above or below (but doesn't affect hanging rails) or other items mounted further back.

Thanks. Pretty much near identical to my plans above. Do you find it long enough to hang all your clothes?

Thank you everyone. So I ordered the 2 wardrobes.

I do have one slight issue. Basically one of the sides of the wardrobes will be offset 2cm off a wall that is exposed to the exterior so get s very cold. I am a bit concerned of mould becoming an issue when the unit is installed so is there any advice on what to do before hand to eliminate the issue? Perhaps 2 coats of anti-mould paint?

Insulation.  

Solid insulation.  Anti mould paint will
do nothing.  You need to prevent the cold
in the first place.

Thank you. I haven't got space to add insulation as will be a tight fit so going to paint over with anti mould paint and then add thermal underlining paper. Should also be offset about 2 - 3 cms from external wall.
