Anyone got Amazon Prime and use Prime Gaming? I've seen there are loads of free PC games (I haven't tried them myself). I see names like Pokemon Go, Call of Duty, Assassin's Creed.

Does this seem like a good service? I'm not a huge gamer but might recommend to my nieces.

  • In my opinion no its not. Its all in the fine print. What you listed above, is loot available for those games and not the game itself. which means you would still need to purchase those games to get any benefit.

The games that are available are outdated or cheap as chips to buy.
  • What is however useful from it (and not well advertised) is that you can use prime gaming to claim one free tier 1 subscription to any twitch.tv streamer. This lets you watch the stream ad-free and also gets you in-channel bonus stuff like promotions, VIP discord channel access (if they have one set up), unique emojis etc.
Tier 1 subs are usually a few £ a month so it's a small but useful quality of life saving if you follow a particular twitch streamer.

I have this as part of my prime and think its great. Its not a reason to get Prime on its own, but it helps tip the balance. I am currently playing 2 point hospital which I got for free from there.

Many of the games are unknown games, but there are some gems on there, such as the Monkey Island series, WRC and Far cry 4.

If you think about what you get from prime, its great value:

Prime Video - films, series etc (a bit like Netflix)
Free next day delivery on items from Amazon
    Prime Gaming (Free games)
Amazon music (a bit like spotify but without the premium "New" songs)
Prime Reading - free books to read online
Household - you can share your one day delivery with anyone in your household for free

    Plus other benefits.

All for £39 a year for students or £79 a year normally.

Around the dates of Prime Days, they had over 25 free games on offer. I already owned some, but did claim a few. Most were games involving fighting, a genre I don't like.

Prime just encourages you to buy things from amazon when eBay is often cheaper and better all around

all the the other things there you can get for free

if you have a steam account for free then there are loads of free games

What did you end up doing? Did you start using Amazon Prime and Prime Gaming?

I've had prime for years and only just noticed gaming. I activated it and my son connected Pokémon go, it gave him some extras which he liked but that was it. None of the other games appealed to him.

I use it occasionally to get some freebies for a few online games I play from time to time, and for the free twitch stuff. They do offer some full games from time to time, but these vary in quality and most of them can be bought standalone for fairly cheap if you want. You also have to maintain the subscription otherwise you lose access to the games.

Personally I wouldn't buy Amazon Prime solely for the gaming stuff, but it might be worthwhile if you would also make use of all the other perks it offers in the Amazon ecosystem - the free delivery when shopping on Amazon, Prime Video, etc.

I think you're missing the point of what was being said.

Prime Video is pretty much the same as Netflix but costs slightly more (£9 compared with £5 per month) but you also get free next day delivery, free books, some free games and add-ons, music. For many people, the extras are worth the few extra pounds per month if you just look at it as a video streaming service compared with Netflix.

Yes, you can get music on Spotify etc, can order stuff on eBay, can sign up to Netflix or others, get games on Steam and other places, and use the Council library's digital book service (but that's a whole different subject!), but as a package Prime is pretty good value for a lot of people.
