Hi all,
last year was the first year I've needed to self assessment against the higher income charge - I've registered for SA and they've asked for returns for 4 previous years - is this normal? I can't even see how to do it on the website! Any advice appreciated!

What information did you provide when registering?
Was your taxable income (not adjusted net income) over £50k in those years?
What have you received which references returns for 4 years?0 -
When registering just said I needed to do it for this year just ended.
...and no to second question...
Had a letter asking for 2018, 2019 and 2020 returns - was only trying to register to do it for 2021/22.0 -
Seems very odd. Before going any further I would check with HMRC why returns were issued for the earlier years.
Common suggestion on here to avoid a long wait in a queue is to phone just before 8am.1 -
