Nationwide - poorer service for existing customers?

We are looking to move and are on a fixed rate mortgage we can port.  We got an agreement in principle and were advised we could complete the process online.  However, it doesn't work if you want to port, only if you want to buy a new product.  So we rang them and we now have to wait over two weeks for a appointment with an online mortgage adviser.  If we were new we customers we could have complete the application online in 30 minutes.  They have advised the appointment will be 2 hours long!

Isn't this unfair on existing customers?  We know exactly what we want, but a 2 hour appointment is surely going to be them trying to flog us a new (more expensive) deal.  Is there any way we can speed the process up - for example would a mortgage adviser through the estate agent be able to move things along more quickly then we can?

@sparky67 As long as it's a fairly standard port, you should be able to get this done through a mortgage broker. It may not make the underwriting process any quicker (as Nationwide service-levels are abysmal at the moment), but you can definitely skip the 2 week wait for a 2 hour appointment and the risk of rates rising further in that time.

We're not interested in the rates at the moment - we are 2 years into a 5 year fixed rate so just want to port what we have.  We are not interested in any new products.  It just seems a frustratingly slow process to just move what we have...

Did you ask why it needed such a long appointment?

Maybe they think there is a lot of review from 2 years back if their processes have changed dramatically.

Use a free broker, why on earth would you want to subject yourself to a TWO HOUR long appointment with a bank and wait two weeks for that privilege.
