Turning down part of a prize

I hope this is ok to post here. I won a competition and ive won a trip and a gift, but not sure i can go on the trip. Its in my name so cant be given away.
My worry is if i say i cant go will i still get the gift or will they look for another winner? Has anyone had experience of turning down part of a prize?

Congratulations on your win! A few years ago I won £500 cash and a paid taxi to tour around London for 3 hours. I wasn't able to get to London on the dates they suggested so I said I probably wouldn't be able to use that part of my prize. They still transferred me the £500 by the end of the day so hopefully you will still be able to claim your gift if you turn down the trip. Does it say anything in the comps Ts & Cs?0

The main prize was the trip and it gave dates so no excuse.1 -
I once won tickets to an event and a £300 voucher - I couldn't make the event but still got the voucher.

Is it a UK trip? If so, could someone else go and pretend they are you, give them a utility bill of yours if they are asked for ID.

I think ive heard about people getting replacement prizes even though terms say no substitutions, doubt they would in this case.0 -

I would contact the promoter and explain that it might not be possible to use the hotel stay and tickets but you're thrilled to have won and would you still be able to receive the gift which was included?
If you fancy the hotel stay but it's down to cost, I would tell them that as things are at the moment you can't afford the travel costs. With the news being full of the rise in the cost of living, I am sure they will understand and maybe even offer to include travel. Its always worth communicating with them1 -
Its always worth asking. I won a magazine prize with options to choose from - I fancied the holiday (£2500) but it was skiing which is not our thing. The promoter gave me a brochure name and said just pick any European trip. We went to Rome and they threw in a trip to Pompeii and £500 spending money.2025 Decluttering Campaign 604/2025 🏅🏅🏅🏅(🏅🏅) 🌟🌟

It all depends on the comp provider. I won a guided tour round London with an author and a signed exclusive edition of his latest book a few years back. I was unable to attend, told them so, and received neither part of the prize.'...luck came to those who left a space for it.' Terry Pratchett0
