Shh. Don't tell the neighbours - peeing on lawn

Earlier this year I was thinking about how to save water as we are on a water meter and also how to stop the smell of pee when the loo is not flushed..... when "ding" i realised we could use our pee for a better use! So i put some empty milk bottles in the loos and asked the family to use them to pee in (everyone has their own personalised pee pot).  I add the pee to a watering can and dilute with water from the water butt and this year I have not bought any feed for the grass as its looking really lush and green.  When its going to bucket down with rain i just apply it neat (but its sprinkled far and wide)!

I reckon as we have 2 loos in our house I have saved flushing 6 times a day. I wont know how much this has saved until the next water bill.
The only problem i have is our waterbutt is not big enough when its dry weather (soon to be resolved).

Anyone done this long-term? how much pee is too much for the grass?

No idea but you can also add pee neat to a compost heap or bin. There's talk of hormones and mens being better than womens but in the end, it's all useful.

    The title brought me here.
Technically you're not peeing on the lawn just throwing diluted wee on it.

Personally, I can't fathom how all the family are ok with weeing into a container every time they go to the toilet.

But hey ho each to their own.

I looked it up and apparently as long as its heavily diluted human wee is good for the grass, I couldn't be bothered with the faff.

Yep, this. Kids might think it fun for a day or two but for some things life is just too short.

Surely the grass is looking "lush and green" because you're watering it more than usual - not necessarily due to the application of pee?

Personally that's pushing the boundaries of my water-saving desires, but if it works for you then go for it!

When I was a child and at my Granny's during the summer, there would be frequent trouble with the street's water pipes and we'd have to "flush" the toilet using a bucket of water taken from the water butt. So if saving water was a priority, I think I would prefer to do it that way. Rather than collecting pee.

I don't think I could do the milk-bottle thing long-term, at a festival or camping then yes, but not in a house with indoor plumbing. Do you swap them out regularly, or how do you sanitise them between uses? Maybe it would be a more attractive idea if vintage chamber-pots were used

Is the pee smell that bad?

This really is a step too far for me, I would be quite happy with not flushing after every single pee if it made a difference to my water bill (fixed water charge here), but no way would I be bottling it, or asking others to! Each to their own though.
