Previous lender pulled £2k out of my account right before the completion with new lender

Options
I just completed a remortgaging deal with LLOYDS on 1st June 2022.
My previous lender was Halifax, and the fixed rate deal ended on 31st May 2022.
Both deals were direct, without a mortgage broker.
The completion for LLOYDS was carried out by a third party company called Integrar.
They advised me not to cancel my direct debit with Halifax until I receive the confirmation of completion from them.
I received the confirmation of completion from Integrar on 1st June 2022.
But before I received the confirmation from Integrar, Halifax went on and pulled the mortgage payment with variable rate out of my bank account as if I was still with Halifax.
The amount is a bit over £2000.
Is this a common thing to happen? What is the logical thing to do in this case to get this amount back?

@g000444555 Yes it's a common issue with remortgages completing very close to the usual DD date.

I can't speak for Halifax specifically but generally with mainstream lenders if a DD goes out after redemption, it will be returned to the same account, usually within 7-14 days.

Had this exact scenario a couple of months back going from Halifax to Platform. Fixed term expired March 31st and we went to Platform April 1st. About 3 weeks after completing on the new deal I got a letter through the post from Halifax saying your 2 and a bit grand will be back with you shortly - it had arrived before the letter turned up. We were with a broker and he said don't worry unless it gets to the next month and you haven't had anything come back to you, so based on my experience do nothing and you should get a refund in the next couple of weeks.

Frustrating from a cashflow perspective when its a large amount you didn't expect but as others have said, it should correct itself relatively soon.
