Can't remember which year I claimed working from home tax relief

Hi

I want to claim tax relief for working from home in 2020/21 and 2021/22. I know I claimed for one of them but can't remember which.

Do I claim for both years? Will I be penalised if I accidentally claim twice for one year?

    Check your self-assessment tax return.
  • What was the tax code on your P60 for each year?  That may make it clear.

look at your online personal tax account ?

  • Thanks for the replies.

    I don't do self assessment.

I'll have to look for my P60s. I've changed jobs, does that make it hard to tell if i got WFH tax relief from the tax code?

I went online but i couldn't find any info. It says i paid £0 tax in 2020/21 despite working and paying tax.
  • The standard tax code for 2021:22 which a lot of people will have had was 1257L.

With Covid-19 WFH expenses it would 1288L.

But other things could muddy the water.

I would be more concerned about what your employer has reported in 2020:21 🤔
  • The zero tax in 2020/21 must be a bug as when I look at the detailed payslip info that my employer reported to HMRC, it's correct.
  • In 2021/22 my tax code changed in March from 1197L to 1228L, that seems to be when I claimed.

So I'm going to claim for 2020/21
  • Well, that was a waste of time 😂

HMRC website says "HMRC have checked our records and you can claim for the following years: 2022/22".

Guess I'll have to take their word for it.
