Asking for a honeymoon?

Hiya,
I’m wondering if anybody knows how to get your honeymoon as your gift? How exactly do you go about it?
Do we book the honeymoon and then give people a code/reference to pay direct to the travel agent, if you do this when does the balance need paying?
Do we ask for money and then have a delayed honeymoon i.e. wait til we know how much we have and book it afterwards for a couple of months after?
Do we just book it and pay for it then ask for currency for our destination as our gift?
Any help appreciated as we are sending invites out in Jan and need to include all the details, plus book the honeymoon if we need to
Thanks
WG xx

We're off to a wedding tomorrow, their honeymoon is in New York.
They put a poem in with the invitation -
As you may already be aware
we already have a home with
everything we need
although a gift is not expected
as the gift of your presence
is all we'd love
but if you feel a gift is needed
a donation to our lovely honeymoon
would truly be appreciated
We had a card (supplied by the Co-op) included with the invitation with the bride and groom's names, destination and booking reference number on it. We could either go into the branch and pay or ring and pay by card.
I don't know if there's a deadline, we just assumed the cut-off date would be the wedding day.Bulletproof0 -
One of our freinds booked a round the world ticket for thier honeymoon.
they rigged up a website using a free online tool ( sorry dont know what it is)
and had lists of stuff like
lunch in nepal 1.50
bungee jumping in NZ 100.00
bus fares in India 20.00 etc
there was enough little ones ( food, museum entry etc) to cater to everyones budget, and you could pick and choose what you wanted- and how much or little you wanted to spend.
We will be doing this for our honeymoon I think
they sent emails with a pic of them doing the "item" eg having a lunch in nepal, to the giver, and they did this instead of the thank you card
Otherwise trailfinders im fairly sure has a "wedding list" online donation type thing, thomas cook have vouchers too. Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
We are looking at doing this and it depends where you go.
There are a couple of inderpendant travel agents round Norwich that you book and pay for the honeymoon (usually 12 weeks before) . You send the cards out and whatever money comes in you get refunded. So a 0% CC would be handy for that.
Where as thomas cook you pay for your honeymoon and the money that people pay into the account you just get travel vouchers to use on another holiday.
Hope that helps.JeremyMarried 9th May 20090 -

It isn't just the independent agents the "big boys" do it too. I've taken payments from customers doing exactly this at Cooks and Going Places (before they merged with Cooks) . The advantage to using a chain is that people can pay at any branch anywhere in the country-the disadvantage is that the chain agencies aren't as good as the majority of independent agents-so it can be a bit of a trade off.
If your honeymoon is right after the wedding then obviously you're asking for balance money very early as holidays are paid for 10-12 weeks prior to departure and can be a bit of a budgeting nightmare as you won't know how much you need to find yourselves until the balance due date. Some people prefer not to buy a present 3 months before the wedding.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
