HALIFAX BANK refused to stamp/certify/pension provider form

Hi, please advise if this is a new security measure? Having made a 2nd visit to the Branch, I was informed that the Bank cannot authorise/certify MY account details and the Bank's IBAN/SWIFT code which is needed on an official form by my overseas pension provider. Is this correct? I spoke to a manager who said I needed to get my G.P. or an attorney to do this..how am i supposed to initiate the process of receiving a pension?

Maybe this helps, but may only apply in the UK so may not be accepted by your overseas pension provider:

Have had a quick look at the link you kindly sent....
Am still surprised that the form I needed certifying was just for bank details and whether I had entered them correctly...I had 2 pieces of ID with me and have banked with them for 25 years so cannot understand why they couldn't do it...when you open an account you would need the ID - Passport and Driving Licence which I had with me...shocking customer service..think i will close account and go elsewhere...0 -
Are the IBAN and SWIFT/BIC shown on your Halifax Bank statement?
Would your pension provider accept your latest statement (original) as the necessary evidence that you had entered your details correctly?1 -
please advise if this is a new security measure?I have been out of banking for nearly 30 years and we would have refused back then if you are were asking for a certified copy of something. However, I suspect in this case, the bank has misunderstood as you are only asking for the codes on official letterhead (that is how UK providers/platforms want it if your statement doesn't have it on there). Telling you to use a GP would suggest that misunderstanding.MY account details and the Bank's IBAN/SWIFT code which is needed on an official form by my overseas pension provider. Is this correct?Does your bank statement not show this? Many do include the swift etc codes.

I suspect you have either asked the wrong question or the person at the bank has misunderstood what you require.
Previously a bank could not legally certify an official UK government document unless it was for their own use. So they could certify a copy of your passport if it was for opening an account with them. It would have been illegal for them to certify the same thing if it was for another organisation.
So it sounds like they may think you want something official certified for another organisation and not supplying you with something official that would confirm that your bank details are correct.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe and Old Style Money Saving boards.
