LGPS ill health retirement deferred member

Hi
I am asking for a family member. I’d be very grateful if anyone could advise please.
They were working for local government as a tradesman and took voluntary redundancy a few years ago and didn’t think they would qualify for ill health retirement at the time .
They are currently working less than 30 hours a week as that’s all they can manage due to health issues.
The guidelines for applying for ill health retirement as a deferred member in my understanding is
1
Cant do the Job they were doing , (I’m pretty sure  will pass that part )
2 Unlikely to be able to carry out gainful employment ( more than 30 hours)

My question is can they try to apply for ill health retirement even though they are working albeit less than 30 hours or do you have to be not working to apply?
I understand it would be up to the OH doctor to confirm this .

No harm in asking.  The initial request should be made to your relative's ex employer (not direct to the LGPS) who will make the arrangements for their Occ Health approved Dr to make the assessment.

If it is approved his/her pension won't receive any enhancements, but will be paid without any reductions for early payment.
