Collection for present

Hi All,
I need to arrange a collection to then buy a leaving present for a colleague.  In pre-covid times, we'd do it with cash in the office, but as we're mainly remotely working now, I need to do it differently.  Don't really want to give my bank details out - any other ideas which makes it easy and safe for people to contribute?
Thank you :)

You don't have to give all your bank details out you just need your account number and sort code. That is safe. I've done that for collections. Nobody else can access your bank account with just those two pieces of information.

Thanks both.  I heard about the paypal option ...Not used paypal myself, but sure it's easy enough.
I get that people can't do anything with the account no and sort code, but it kind of just feels too close for comfort as it's quite a large group.  Not even sure why I feel that way - it's probably the easiest way.

paypal is easy - I did a collection for a combined charity donation in memory of a friend's son, all worked fine, I just gave them my email address and they added a note to say who it was from and the amount. Need to make sure you click Friends and Family (or however it is worded) as there is no charge then

Tell that to Jeremy Clarkson. He thought that too and gave out his bank account number and sort code in his column in the Sun. Within a week multiple Direct Debits had been set up on his account

Only one was set up to a Diabetes charity and he was able to cancel it. He then made a donation to the charity. He didn't loose any money.

Depending on if you are physically buying something and only gift collection is good. Like thankbox or similar. The recipient can withdraw the collection as a gift card or cash etc

Personally I like the actual idea of a real gift but this sort of service works well for remote collections

No he didn't LOSE any money...the point is giving out your bank details isn't really a good idea as JC found out and had to spend time sorting it out.

The point he was making was that they can't get any money with those details. Cancelling a DD isn't that hard
