Hi all,
Just wanted to ask if I can send a provit letter to Lowell for an old mobile phone debt and a Paypal loan debt?
Can a provit request be sent via email as well?
Thank you for your response.

Hi,
Why would you think you couldn`t send a "provit letter" to Lowell for these debts ?
For the avoidance of any doubt, anyone who writes asking you to pay a debt, must provide proof of your liability when asked.
Its a basic first step when dealing with any kind of debt, you always ask them to prove you actually owe this money, regardless of what you may already know about the debt, a collector/DCA/creditor whoever they are, has to provide evidence on request, in order to legally be able to collect such a debt.
If they can`t provide anything, then you cannot be coerced into paying it, its the same at court, no evidence equals no liability on your part, so it`s a pretty important statutory right, don`t you think.
A request for evidence should always be sent in writing, but email is acceptable.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. Hi again,
I did send a provit letter regarding the alleged mobile phone debt and I got this one-page sheet after an initial letter stating that they have sent a request to the service provider for the details of the account.
My question is does this suffice as a proof/evidence of debt ownership for a mobile phone debt?
What documentation should I be expecting for a Provit query?
Thank you

Is there anything there that links it to you?
When was the last alleged payment according to them?0 -
Does it contain any of your personal details, any bank account or card numbers that link it to you ?

And does it show an amount outstanding at the bottom? I can just see something periodic for £27.50 but I would expect something that clearly states "amount owed" at a certain date.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. @fatbelly last payment according to them was 03/08/2016
@sourcrates my name and former address
@Brie the outstanding amount is the £254.73 at the top under debit.
A previous letter stated that they were in contact with the service provider to request copy statements of the account and the screenshot was what they eventually sent to me.0 -
Ah! I was working from the top down but you are saying it goes from the bottom up.
So you paid £254.73 which brought your balance to zero and the account was closed. And then the £254.73 payment bounced? Possibly you had cancelled your DD too quickly resulting in the bank refusing to honour it??
It appears there was a previous bounced payment of £59.22 which you cleared with a payment of £90.58 which also bounced. So obviously there were some problems towards the end of your time with the provider.

Also - it seems most of the charges have been around the £30 mark but suddenly the last charge is for £164.15 which I assume may be an early termination payment. I would be questioning if that is correct or not.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. Last payment 16/8/16 means it will go statute barred next month.
I'd ignore this - Lowell have bought a dud.1 -
