Getting stains out of kids clothes

Options
I never seem to be able to get any stains out of kids clothes. DS came home this week having managed to make every single one of his white school polo shirts filthy. I soaked them in vanish for the maximum time and then put them in the washing machine. It’s almost made no difference at all.

How do people get these things back to white again without bleach? I’m not going to continually buy new things.. help!

Napisan is quite good at removing stains, and for sanitising anything 'nasty' .
I must confess when my boys were at junior school I bought them grey polo shirts but it depends what the school allows.

Sometimes rubbing neat detergent (assuming you use laundry liquid) on the offending stain may help or spraying Oxy- stain remover on before wash. In both cases leave a little while to soak before putting in machine.

If you can identify exactly what the stain is you could try stain devils as they are quite specific and usually work well.

I suspect white vinegar might help in certain situations

I have often found a dash (and I say dash otherwise you will be over run with bubbles!) of Fairy Liquid works wonders on stains - I have only tried real Fairy so not sure if other generic brands work! I used Napisan to remove stains from nappies and it worked quite well too.

As Orkney star I use wash up liquid any brand, it’s a degreaser so works well on lots of stains. But napisan is a good shout too.

Washing up liquid neat rubbed in works if it's a grease stain. It  but doesn't need to be fairy.

Blood I get really good results from a cold water and table salt mix, and I've used this with quite good results on unidentifiable stain.

I wouldn't know if it's grass stains or finger paints though. Can you identify the marks?

It just looks like general dirt, like he’s been rolling around in the mud or something! I’m also starting to get a bit of yellow around the collar where we put sun tan lotion on.

Sunshine as well @QueenJess I know we don’t have much but as a reusable nappy parent, the sun gets the worst stains out of nappies if you catch my drift!

I use washing up liquid, v@nish solid soap bar when I can find it or a powdered version of any stain remover depending on the type of stain. Some need a couple washes or soaks to get stains out.

K2r stain spray. Mainly sold in Europe but think there is a version available on amazon, although not sure if same one as it looks different to mine. I buy the french version from a french on-line grocery in the uk. Completely removes food and all grease stains.

Useful to know, I mostly tend to use Fairy so wasn't sure about other brands.
