Winter Fuel and Extra Payment

I was 66 in Nov 21, so just missed out on the £200 for this Winter, as you had to be born before Sept 26 1955
Regarding the £200 + £300 payment for this Winter 2022/23 all news outlets are saying the same to qualify you have to be born before Sept 26 1955, surely this is wrong and should be 1956
Or are the 66 SP people being punished again?

Read the factsheet issued by the government rather than the tabloid press.People will be eligible for this payment if they are over State Pension age (aged 66 or above) between 19 – 25 September 2022.

Qualifying date of birth for winter fuel allowance does change every year - so my guess is that the media is so desperate to publish these details they've cut-and-pasted some of the basics without updating them.3

Unfortunately the WFA page on .gov, which is linked to from the factsheet, uses the 1955 cut off but does specify it is for winter 2021-22. A case of copying and pasting without engaging brain.Silvertabby said:Qualifying date of birth for winter fuel allowance does change every year - so my guess is that the media is so desperate to publish these details they've cut-and-pasted some of the basics without updating them.

Thanks for the info and calming me down.Silvertabby said:Qualifying date of birth for winter fuel allowance does change every year - so my guess is that the media is so desperate to publish these details they've cut-and-pasted some of the basics without updating them.I find the 30 somethings employed in the media are experts in cut and paste reporting and especially ignorant when it comes to Pensions1
