Warning -Marraige Allowance

Possibly a system error so good to check online portal

To cut a long story short.
All my PAYE slips  stated we received the M allowance on our income.

Calling tax office she stated it was on, we were getting it and we were not a higher tax payer.

On my online portal it stated we received it BUT under the update your marriage allowanc  it stated from the year 2015-2020 we were a higher tax payer so did not receive the marriage allowance

Asked why? No answer, just the above. It was on, we were correct tax that year etc. So everything was ok. She really just brushed this Portal thing off.

I was not letting it go so asked for a full calculator for those years

Received a letter stating  the M  was not calculated  on and to call and re add it .

I can only assume a system error.
So get checking

That doesn't really make sense.  If the tax code used by your employer included Marriage Allowance (which is what the M signifies) then you have already received it.

Or had you received underpayment calculations from HMRC saying tax was owed as Marriage Allowance had been removed??

    Nope none of those 😁

It was showing on all paperwork and systems as we received the M credit

On the portal'update your M allowance' iIt stated we did not receive it due to income being in higher rate(even though their systems have our income in the 21%

Upon the calculations they realized we did not have it taken into account.

I assume it must be a system error as they have now put our M allowance in with our personal allowance for this year. This is not the way it is normally worked out.
