I am looking for where I can buy some short grain rice for puddings as I'm running low on it. The last bag I bought was from a specialtiy farm shop in faversham .I have looked at barious websites for the big supermarkets and it seems to be either no longer stocked or in short supply
Anyone else out there prefer to make their own rice pud, rather than the watery tinned stuff ? Lots of long grain around but short grain seems not to be so popular today ???

I last got mine from Waitrose, which is local to me. Sainsbury's also stock it. Shall I post you some?!

I have been searching for it but my local Tesco is not stocking it at all :(
Blooming nuisance as the short grain is superb and I do like a nice rice pud as a change I cook mine in the slow cooker and use evaporated milk and with some nutmeg grated on top its so much nicer than anything from a tin :)

Any rice will work, I think the short grain has more starch to make the pudding a bit thicker but long grain and basmati work as well. I'm sure at school many moons ago we did a lesson on rice and used different sorts as an experiment.

Yes, I was going to say Arborio rice used for risottos will work well too.

It's available in my Ocado app - three different brands in stock. Have you tried searching for 'pudding rice' as it's not always called short grain rice?

Our local Sainsburys also stocks it but as with some other supermarkets not with the other rice but with the tins of fruit etc so maybe worth asking when you next go in.

We are also lucky enough to have a small shop in town which sells rice, sugar, flour etc loose in bins
