Wrong tax code on payslip

Can anyone explain what the tax code BR means please?

Basic Rate.

It is typically used on second (PAYE) source of income.

If you explain your circumstances it should be possible to say if it is correct or not.

If it's at a job where you have your main tax code allowances, for example tax code 1257L then you're not paying "extra", it's just that you have used all your tax free allowances so the additional pay will all be taxed at 20 or 40%.
