marriage tax allowance question

in Cutting tax
My wife applied in this March 22 to share her unused tax allowance with me.
How long does it take to get a response to our postal application.
Assuming my tax allowance was £12,570 with her 10% tax allowance share would be £13,827, my question is how do I claim the tax free earnings £1,257 that I earned that would been tax free.
Do I claim that from my employer? if so how?

No idea how long it takes but your employer will eventually be issued with a new tax code for you. The tax you pay will then be adjusted, you do not need to claim anything.0

And just to be clear you will get extra tax code allowances so you get the benefit of Marriage Allowance during the year but Marriage Allowance is actually a tax deduction, not an increase in your personal allowance.
You save £252 in the current tax year (£1260 x 20%).
It makes no difference to most people but it does for a few.0 -

When you eventually get the calculations for those earlier years you will see the standard Personal Allowance but somewhere in the calculation there will be a tax credit reducing your tax liability, for example in 2019:20 it will be £250 (£1,250 x 20%).
If your wife owes any tax as a result of applying her calculations will show a reduced Personal Allowance, for example £11,250 in 2019:20.
NB. Marriage Allowance doesn't apply for part years, you are either eligible of not. All HMRC will do is check if you are both eligible. They don't check if applying is a sensible thing to do.1 -
For past years they will send out a cheque. For the current year they will adjust your tax code. For the purposes of this your "employer" will be your pension payer.

For previous years it could be November until it is dealt with.0
