Power on the day of install

Hello,

Quick question , On the day of install is the power off for long ?

I know the answer will probably depends , but assuming all goes ok and they are connecting to an existing fuse box.

Cheers

Oh why I'm asking is do we need the day off work as I WFH. I will probably book the day off anyway but the Mrs might work.

Hiya, in theory the installers won't need to 'mess about' with your leccy supply until they are ready to connect the PV system to the consumer unit. So hopefully they'll have the DC team installing the panels, and the AC team installing the inverter and cable run, but not need to impact you till the AC 'stuff' is complete and ready to wire into the CU.

    In theory ....... ;-)

Mine was off for about 30 mins I think.  No more.  Install started about 8.30am and by 2.30pm I was generating and they were just completing the paperwork.

Shouldn't be long. If you're working from a laptop can you tether internet on your mobile?

Just becaware that the above is typical.
However if when testing at connection time a fault is located then that may have to be dealt with at that time. That could extend the down time.

If the fault is causedby the new installation then that could be isolated whist fixed. -best case.

If the fault is your existing system and it is unsafe then that might take longer andbthe electricians are dury bound to leave things, even temporarily, in a safe condition. - probably one of the worst cases. This is most likely in a system that works but does not pass safety checks. Not all that common especially with modern connections with circuit breakers and residual current devices.

Our didn't get turned off either. I stuck my head round the garage door to ask when it would go off as I needed to plan cooking and they said they were already done.
