It depends on why is was cancelled and what the contract terms are.
If you're not entitled to a refund from the venue, you'll need to see if you're covered under your insurance.1 -
Change of mind cancellation tends not to be covered, so why was it cancelled and which are the t&c that you don’t understand? All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.1 -
We had to cancel as it was just getting to much for me, on the contract from the venue it does not state any time frame0

What have the venue said?
what has the insurer said?0 -
Venue have said that they had already ordered food etc, even though it was still 7 weeks before, insurer said if I can get proof of doctor for my depression then they will look into it, unfortunately I never went even though it’s a common occurrence with me and have been many times before0
-
If your depressed at the moment then get an appointment with your GP. If he agrees he can give you proof for the insurance company.
The wedding venue are entitled to cover their expenses and it is quite reasonable that the food would be ordered lpready. they don't nip down to the local supermarket the week before.
It is also unlikely they will be able to get another booking for the date.2 -
We’re you asked about pre-existing medical conditions she taking out the insurance? And was the depression covered.
it might be worth seeing what the policy says about pre-existing conditions before going g to a lot of effort. However seeing your go is good advice anyway, they may.be able to point you in the direction of some help.1 -
£7,000; "cancellation" - payment of irrecoverable expenses for the wedding attire, stationery and suppliers booked but not used where the wedding or reception is cancelled or curtailed {No excess}.Up to £5,250; "rearrangement" - payment of the difference between the original and rearrangement cost to provide a comparable service where the wedding or reception is cancelled or curtailed {No excess} This is what my insurance says0
-
That reads as if you are not covered for the reception because you have cancelled. You could ask the venue if they can mitigate the costs by reselling the date but that’s going to be difficult at this short notice. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

normally disinclination is not covered.
normally pre-existing medical conditions are not covered.
but you’d need to check the policy and/ or the insurer.
Getting evidence from the go also provides evidence that condition pre-dates the wedding.0
