COUNCIL TAX BANDING

Good morning

We are currently on a Band E rating but there are four houses on our cul de sac that have been downgraded to a Band D due to having busnesses registered at their address

My son who lives with us has his limited company registered at our home address as he is still living with us.  Can we apply for a reduction based on this?

Having a business registered at an address should not in itself affect the CT band as it makes no difference to the property. If a room of a house was used solely for business purposes and was separately assessed for Non Domestic Rating then that could affect the band.


I'm ex VOA, dealt with CT banding for many years and never, ever came across anyone having a lower CT band just because a business was registered at that address. It makes no sense because as anyone can set up a company for very little outlay, everybody could do this, register the company at their address and save hundreds on their annual CT bill.
