I have an account on my credit file, which defaulted Jan 2016. The account was fully paid in Jan 2022.  I assume that it will remain on my credit file until Jan 2028.

  • No. It should  have been removed Jan 2022.

Did it definitely default? Are you viewing up to date files?

Defaults are supposed to drop off your file after 6 years regardless of any action you take.

It should be gone now, and its unusual that it has not done so, are you certain it was a default ?

Defaulted on Equifax and TransUnion but never defaulted on experian.  Equifax had it defaulted and then settled the following month.

Do I correct Experian or leave it as a none default for the next five years?
