I am not sure whether this is a "Sport & Fitness" query or a "Techie Stuff" query, so I hope someone sees this that can make some good suggestions.

I have a Garmin Fitness Tracker - Vivoactive 3 - and yesterday it lost a small number of steps.
This is annoying to me as I was on a really long goal streak of always achieving steps - 436 days.
I know that you only need exactly the number of steps to achieve the goal streak - I did that on 15th May, the steps were counted, goal shows as complete and target for the following day increased.

Now, yesterday, I know that I achieved the number of steps.
The target was 23,950 and I did a few extra paces of the bedroom (to the annoyance of Mrs G-c) before bed.
The goal was 23,950, I stepped my way to the trophy and fireworks and once in bed, it read 23,963.
This morning, the device is showing the goal as missed at only 23,731 steps.
However, the device must have those extra steps somewhere as the goal today has increased to 23,960.  (If you achieve target, the auto-goal increases, if you miss target, the auto-goal decreases).

Where are the extra steps and how do I get them synced back to the device?
To get back to the goal streak of 436 days is not a quick thing to do.

I have thought about turning the device off and on but wondered whether that would simply lose the data forever.

Really hoping that a knowledgeable Forumite can advise what I should do.

I thought I would update just in case anyone else stumbles across my query.

I e-mailed Garmin Support, who came back and requested screenshots etc. and just now updated that this is added to an open investigation that is being looked into and they have a number of affected users so there will be a resolution, but no timeframe.

I will update again if / when Garmin resolve.

Final update on this, Garmin have corrected the missing steps and also refactored the personal records so my performance streaks etc. are all where they should be.  I'm happy about that as breaking a continuous steps daily streak of over 400 days was a lot to lose and would have been a long time to recover.  I am now at 456 days :)

Not sure whether Garmin have just corrected the data for the affected accounts or identified and resolved the root cause as that detail was not shared in the update from them.
