HMRC refund claim going round in circles

I completed a self-assessment for 2021-22 and then claimed a refund of an over-payment to be paid to my bank account. I checked the app a couple of days later and it said there was a process in hand so it could not show my current status. Good, I thought, that means it is being processed. It had since reverted to the previous screen and again shows the amount as an over-payment which can be claimed. What is happening, please?
