State pension, added N.I. years and private pension

Just read Martin's post about topping up National Insurance years before 2023.

I've a few questions, sorry if basic!

- If I have a small amount in an NHS pension and in a private pension, can I claim a state pension also when I retire?

- My N.I checker said I have:
  • 20 years of full contributions

  • 20 years to contribute before 5 April 2040

  • 13 years when you did not contribute enough

Does this mean if I work another 20 years (ie. to 2042), then I don't need to buy any additional years, and it will "cancel out" the 13 years when I didn't contribute?

Thank you :)

Yes, the state pension is independent of any private / work pensions

Is that 2040 correct or do you mean 2042 ?

You need to look at the figures from your forecast.  It will state how many more years you need to contribute to reach the full amount.  That figure shown only means you have 20 years left until you reach state retirement.

    Thanks.

My forecast says I can get £124 per week. If I contribute another 13 years I can get £185.15 per week.

I can work another 13 years - so does that mean if I work these years, I don't need to buy additional years now to be eligible for the full 185 amount?

If you work another 13 years you will be eligible for a full SP. One of those years could be tax year 2021/2022 if the figures  have not yet been updated.

No it doesn't, the State Pension is an individual benefit.
