Hoping to get some advice on behalf of a friend. She has received a letter from PRAC regarding a charge from British gas at a rented house she left 5 years ago. Presumably British Gas were unable to trace her so have sold the debt on. The charge is for the 4 months after all of the tenants left the property and it was being renovated. Just wondering how she should proceed? I have had dealings with BW Legal and I have advised her not to engage them. Should she contact British gas and where does she stand with regard to the charge? TIA

Is BW Legal relevant here? Is the letter from PRAC or BW?

When you say 'a letter' what does the letter say? Is it in fact a 30-day pre-action protocol letter?

It's a letter stating that they have purchased the debt from BG and done a 'soft search' on her and that they have appointed BW as their representative. I

OK, no need to panic then. If she can get this to the six-year point, a lot of the arguments become redundant as the debt would be unenforceable.
