Strange case of finding lost pension

Slightly long winded but potentially interesting lost pension story.....

My wife has had 2 'real' jobs in her life; the first with HMV after leaving college where she was for 8 years before then joining apple (when we met she was at apple)

She ended up leaving apple to be a stay at home mum shortly after which we looked to sort out her pensions; the apple one was straight forward - we transferred it to HL. HMV we struggled to find anything as she didn't remember much other than she was in a scheme and we had very little paperwork. We used the 'lost pension' service and couldn't find anything and concluded that she either had a tiny pot that went to the apple scheme or she would have been in the HMV scheme that went bump with the company prior to the days of pensions protection etc.

Years and years have passed and we've given it no thought

Just this week I have been sorting out our car insurances. For her car and insurance i used a price comparison site and Aviva happened to come out on top.

I duly set up the insurance in her name, using our address etc. and my email address (i sort all the household stuff)

Aviva asked me to register on their website to get her documents etc. (as is standard) which i did in her name, my email etc.

On logging on to the Aviva website the car insurance stuff was there along with a 'pensions saving' section where it showed a balance of £1800

Not mega bucks but a nice surprise none the less.

We are now in the process of contacting Aviva to verify her identity with them etc. so we can get more information and will report back what we find but just found it a very strange and fortuitous way to stumble across an old pension
Left is never right but I always am.
