Only been on Octopus Outgoing Agile for a few weeks so only had 1 bill. The income earned from my export was calculated at an average price of 16.8p.

Agile works well for us as our panels are on a SW facing roof. We tend to use appliances late morning and then let the battery fill. Most of our export is late afternoon and into the evening so we catch the highest rates of the day between 4-7pm when there's still plenty of sun on the roof.

At the moment we are going through a period of high prices how long this will last is anyone's guess, but i would expect export prices will come down over summer. Basing financial decisions on a moment in time is always risky which a lot of us are doing with PV as well . To me it seems to be simple if you are on the FIT scheme the solar diverter makes sense if not probably not . Having said that a basic DIY one might make sense.
8kw system spread over 6 roofs , surrounded by trees and in a valley.

At the moment I’m paying 3.65p kWh gas and getting 4.1p kWh Seg from Octopus on Go. Assuming 90% efficiency on the gas boiler the numbers virtually match. However I am not burning gas which may still be coming from Russia. I’m also not creating co2. The Eddi will never pay for itself but it means my hot water is usually green

Last year during the summer months when the central heating was off, we used on average 8kWh per day for heating the hot water cylinder. Now we are using an immersion heater only and the average is 4.5kWh. It's not just boiler efficiency, it is the heat loss in the pipework from the boiler to the cylinder plus the electric for the pump, valve and boiler. I'm also keen not to be burning gas, although I do appreciate that any excess energy that goes back into the grid will also reduce the amount of gas/coal that is burnt.

Export prices for Outgoing Agile have already dropped below the 7.5p of Outgoing Fixed.

I'm always happy to give details of my design and circuit diagrams of boards I made. I've had the diverter box working since 2012.

  • I had an EDDI put in when I had my solar and battery installed. There was no additional installation charge. As I am paying 5p/kWh on Go it has made sense to use the EDDI rather than gas. Will I recover my EDDI outlay: probably not.

As I don't have a water cylinder, I've started dumping power into an oil filled radiator when the export price is under 7p as that matches my gas central heating but that only works as long as the weather is cooler, bit stuck when it warms up!

Isn't the average rate paid for Agile more than double the fixed rate of 7.5p?
