'one months' notice - so confused

Hi there, I've read so many conflicting articles online, I'm now thoroughly confused so please help 🙂
I have a new job. They want me to start ASAP but I have to give "one months notice". I thought this was 4 weeks, but I might be wrong after reading about this. However I can't work out exactly how many working days 'one month' is actually supposed to be!
If I hand in my notice on Monday 9th May... When the flip is my last working day going to be?
For weeks is Tuesday 7th June, 10th to the 10th makes it Friday 10th June. 30 days is Thursday 9th June..... 🤯
My contract doesn't specify, it simply says one months notice.
Please help before I lose my mind!

Well you could ask your employer! It may be that they have an idea
It might be for weeks. It might be a calendar month. We couldnt tell you.

The issue with that is that they don't know I have a new job yet because I'm waiting for my firm offer of employment letter. There's a catch 22 where I only get the firm offer letter from my new employer with a start date on it once a start date is decided. I can only hand my notice in once I have received that letter from my new employer. I need to work out a start date for the letter before I hand in my notice; and the start date depends on the notice period 🤦🏻♀️0

That doesn't mean a time in weeks or working days but a calendar month (which can be anything from 28 to 31 days depending on when in the year it starts).
If you hand in your notice on Monday, 9 May, the one month would run from 10 May to 9 June and therefore your last day as an employee would be Thursday, 9 June.
You might want to negotiate taking any accrued holiday not already taken. (The calculation of holiday would be up to and including the final day of employment, 9 June.) That might allow you to begin work with your new employer a little early but remember there are 2 bank holidays in that period.
ETA I've now seen that you posted again while I was writing. You would be best advised to take the cautious approach and not expect to be able to negotiate taking holiday (other than BHs) during your notice period. The employer would not have to agree holidays during notice but they would have to pay you for any accrued but not taken).1 -
Thank you General_Grant! I don't expect to take holiday. Historically with the other colleagues they tend to prefer to pay accrued holiday and have the employee work the full notice, which is fine by me. I just needed to work out what the 'one month' ment in order to work out a start date for my new employer, and to write on my resignation letter. You make total sense! Thanks so much 🙂0

If you don't want to ask your employer you need to assume it is what it says - 1 month.
