Tax Free Allowance, can i choose where it applies?

My FIL, Recently advised me that he thought that I could use my Tax Free Allowance on my second job, instead of my first job.

I currently work 2 jobs, equalling approx 35 hours p/w.

JOB 1. 1275L, employed since 2012 - monthly salary (18.5contract)

JOB 2. BR - employed since 2021 - weekly wage (Bank/Zero Hours)

I currently use my Tax free allowance on my first income, and I'm taxed a little per month and more per week, so can I switch my tax free allowance so im taxed more on my monthly salary, and less on my weekly wage. It seems like I would be taking less of a hit being taxed 1 big one P/M than 52 times a year

Does my query makes sense and is my FIL correct and on the right track with this info.

Thanks

So... if you don't work any bank hours in one particular month.... how is your basic tax going to be paid? It needs to come from JOB 1, then anything from JOB 2 is a bonus, even if taxed at 20%.

You can change it if you want but it will make no difference to the amount of tax you have to pay.

You would be making life (slightly) more complicated for no benefit.

Chances are you will be more frustrated with the process of doing this and the short term effects on your payslips than the long term "benefits"
