Marriage tax allowance

in Cutting tax
My wife works part time and doesn't earn enough to reach her tax threshold so in mid March I applied for marriage tax allowance. My tax code duly changed at the beginning of this financial year.
I also applied for back dated tax allowance as my wife has never reached her tax allowance.
As it is now May and I've read that people seem to get their money within a couple of weeks I was wondering how long it takes normally. When I check online it says tax rebate applied for.
My wife has to do self assessment and I was wondering if that makes a difference
TIA

I hope you mean your wife applied for marriage allowance - you apply to give part of your allowance away, not to receive the benefit.Backdated years can take a few months for the cheque to come through especially at this time of year as each of your years has to be reassessed, not a simple "give you the value" operation. Her being SA has nothing to do with it as her tax liability for those back years will be assessed separately.1

so in mid March I applied for marriage tax allowance
That can only ever mean you pay the same or more tax, not get a refund.
Who actually applied?0
