Mines only small to start with but I’d say below £10k I’ll be buzzing
    That would be amazing.

Paying off my mortgage 2 years ago was such a huge moment, as I had been working towards that for a few years.

About your question, I was quite worried about the mortgage at the beginning, but after my fix period ended, and the interest rates came down (after the financial crash of 2008), I am glad that I started working on a plan to pay off the mortgage as soon as I could realistically.

And once I had a plan, and I could see the mortgage amount owed coming down every month, that was when I started worrying a little less and started getting excited about paying it off. It's definitely a positive mental feeling and gives you the motivation to keep going. After a while, you build some momentum and it gets easier as you can feeling getting closer to your goal.

For example, this graph shows the amount of interest I was paying over the period I was over-paying the mortgage (9 year period):

So for everyone on their MFW journey...never give up, keep going...slowly but surely you will get there.

I think when I became mortgage neutral a couple of years ago I felt secure.......
Now that my mortgage will be under 30k later thus month and with 12 months to go and some substantial overpayments to achieve that I feel happy.
  • Looking forward it being under 100k by hopefully just after the end of the year, that seems like a good result from over paying the last couple of years.
Same. Feels even better given the rising cost of living ..
