Solicitor sent my Mortgage company too much money to redeem mortgage on completion date!

Just completed my house sale today and received funds.  Have looked through the itemised invoice but could immediately see the solicitors paid the wrong amount to redeem my mortgage.  What I think has happened is the solicitors requested the redemption amount at the beginning of April, however my last mortgage payment was taken in the middle of the month so they didn't actually have an up to date redemption figure when paying them on completion.  Can I ask in this circumstance, who should I be getting on to to get this money back?  Should my solicitors be sending me back the difference or should it be the mortgage company (TSB)?

@t1redmonkey It's usually the lender than does the refund. You should have a TSB redemption statement sent to you by your solicitor over email, and it should have a blurb on what they will do about excess funds.

Like this one for example (not TSB) -

Lender will return any overpaid funds directly to you.

You were presumably given a copy of the completion statement to check?

Thank you - I did get several redemption statements, some I think the solicitor requested, some I requested from TSB directly.  I was under the impression the solicitor would check with TSB on the day of completion to ensure they were paying the right amount but I don't think that happened, they've just used a month old redemption statement instead...

Not time on the day of completion to obtain new mortgage redemption statement. All comes out in the wash as the saying goes.

If that is the case, mortgage company will refund you without any issues.
