Alliance & Leicester

The Alliance & Leicester are consistently recommended for offering good deals however, my elderly parents have accounts with them and I find them a terrible bank to deal with.
Following a written request we waited weeks for a copy of a deposite account statement - required to deal with some pension issues.
We seem to be continually doing battle with them with all sorts of customer service problems.
I realise that there can be financial benefits in dealing with them but a bit of good customer service would be helpful even if it comes at a cost.
Has anyone else had problems in their dealings with the Alliance & Leicester?

Hear, hear. I just wouldn't do business with this company. One thing that irritates me is the constant advertising of the 12% monthly savings account because I am convinced that a lot of people do not understand how it works.
Also, they are always bringing out new accounts. It does not surprise me that their customer service is bad. There is another bank I would not touch with a bargepole and that is Abbey. Diana Wright in Times Money says that she gets more complaints about Abbey than any other bank. My philosophy is - keep it simple and give good service. Smile banking is great for this which is why I am so disappointed that they pay such poor rates on ISAs. Their savings account is not too bad at 5% for existing customers. Sometimes I wonder if good service is not more important than high rates of interest?0
