Married Allowance Transfer

To make things MUCH MUCH WORSE it seems that the HMRC system will automatically backdate the cancellation as far as it can., thus costing me a lot of money in "back-tax".
Therefore it would be sensible for me to unravel the whole attempt to cancel the transfer, thus securing the previous year 'savings'.
However I can see no way to achieve this in the HMRC inflexible online system and trying to find a sensible postal address seems like an impossible task.
Anyone any ideas?

It is too late to cancel for the current year unless your relationship has ended
https://www.gov.uk/marriage-allowance/if-your-circumstances-change
If you cancel because of a change of income, the allowance will run until the end of the tax year (5 April).
If your relationship has ended, the change may be backdated to the start of the tax year (6 April).
