Is it normal for Banks to take mortgage payments a couple of days after the agreed date even if the payment date falls on a working day?

My first mortgage payment was due out today but Natwest for some reason decided not to take it.

When I called them to explain  the situation, they said they will be requesting the payment in the next couple of days even though the payment date is the 25th of every month.

I've never experienced this with other lenders before.

Maybe just with the first payment.

    Good you have contacted them.
  • My first natwest payment was different to the normal score. Can't remember why but maybe a smallish gap between completion and DD date?

If it's the first payment then most likely simply an initial administrative issue in setting the Direct Debit up. When did your mortgage complete?

My Mortgage payment finally came out yesterday. I think it was delay with the direct debit being setup from the banks end as Thrugelmir suggested above.Normally I prefer the money to be in my account but because it was a Mortgage payment I had to follow it up.
