How to apply for jobs without a pc?

Yu should be able to use office on a tablet (or even hone, although that's pretty tedious) You can store documents using cloud storage or if you prefer, you can simply e-mail the word document to yourself and will then be bale to open an edit it on any machine with office installed, including library PCs .
You could store it on a usb drive but check whether your library allows external drives to be plugged in to their machines!
Or you could buy your own laptop - there are plenty of places you can buy a second hand / refurbished laptop for under £150 - there are lots of sellers and some are big names such as Music Magpie, Currys/PC World (via their official ebay store) and Amazon Renewed which offer warrantiesAll posts are my personal opinion, not formal advice Always get proper, professional advice (particularly about anything legal!)0 -
I just did a search on ebay and amongst the many results I found a brand new laptop with windows 10 for £112! Ok, the spec wouldn't do for gaming etc, but if you just want a knock around that does the internet and basic programmes like Office, it's more than enough. A one year personal (one user) copy of Office 365 is £45 at Amazon and you get your cloud storage (so you can access files from anywhere) with that. At prices like that I wouldn't even consider going second hand. Otherwise, there's a very reputable company I have used for decades have laptops available for delivery tomorrow at the £150 mark for brand new. PM me if you'd like a link to them. And I don't get commission, honest!
Good luck with the job hunting.1 -
I used the library a lot for this type of thing and just emailed myself a copy of my cv so that when needed I could just download it when on the library pc.5

The advantage of email being that you can add notes alongside the file eg "sent to company xx"Statement of Affairs (SOA) link: https://www.lemonfool.co.uk/financecalculators/soa.phpFor free, non-judgemental debt advice, try: Stepchange or National Debtline. Beware fee charging companies with similar names.2

If you are receiving Job Seekers Allowance they will buy you a laptop. Basically you are entitled to the below benefits:
1. They can buy you a laptop if you don't have one
2. They can buy you a cell phone if you don't have
3. They can buy you clothes for the interview
4. You can get free broadband at home for 6 months
5. They can pay you the public transport ticket to go to interviews
6. Once you find a job and you need to use public transport to get to work they can pay you the public transport ticket for the first 3 months.
So, if you are on JSA just speak to your work coach and they will explain all this.1 -

I hope most work coaches are that supportive. Mine wouldn't even speak to me. Wouldn't respond to emails. Wouldn't call me. Wouldn't arrange follow up meetings and then would accuse me of not attending (attend what?). One meeting that was arranged was for 9 pm on a Saturday - 4 hours after the job centre closed. When I forced the issue and she had to reply to an email she blatantly lied in it.
In the end I have decided I don't want their (or specifically her) help as it's just too irritating. I feel sorry for those that do need assistance as when someone is such a waste of space in their job they may not have the resources, financially or mentally, to deal with the situation.
Overall I feel sorry for those working in DWP as they are dealing with a lot of difficult situations and it must grind them down. But some minimal standards of behaviour should be maintained no matter what.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. I don't really need their help for CVs, job applications etc because I know what I'm doing and what to look for. But, I'm just required to attend the meetings.
Maybe you could ask them to have a different work coach?1 -
@Charlotte@ca
should you run into problems in the future a friend of mine said that the thing you need to ask is "is there anything else I need to know about?"
apparently they won't tell you things you don't ask about, or things that might be helpful but if you ask them an open ended question they need to answer it truthfully.
Why they can't inform you of things I don't know about apparently it seems that if YOU don't know they don't need to tell you. So very unhelpful to my mind but then I don't have their mindset.
Good luck with everything - it seems like you're one of the ones that it a bit better than they might deal with generally!!

I’m aware of the scheme where those in receipt of certain benefits because they’re on a low income can buy discounted laptops. That is not the same as saying that being on JSA means there is an automatic entitlement to a free laptop. Are you by any chance thinking of the completely discretionary flexible support fund? All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.5 -
I do apply on my phone. All the job boards have apps. I have Office / Word as standard on my phone0
