Hi, our Transpennine train was cancelled, we were told by a station advisor that we could use the Avanti train but would have to wait an hour, I've tried to get a refund for the delay, but it has been unsuccessful as they have stated there wasn't a train at that time even though we've got etickets with the time??? Not sure what else I can do as we also had the same issue on our return!!

I think you've posted in the wrong board - we deal with invoices issues in private parking facilities on this one.

If you PM a board guide, you can ask them to move this thread to the Public Transport & Cycling board, which would be more suited to your query.

Who have you tried claiming from?

martindow, we've tried Transpennine, and their response was that "they were unable to find a timetabled journey that matches our claim", even though we've got etickets with the departure times and station!

The land of Kafka.  I think the expert on rail ticketing on here is yorkie2
Hopefully he will see this thread and comment or you could send him a direct message.
If Transpennine have a twitter account it could be worth posting a message there.  I've found quick Twitter messages can provide quick responses - though maybe not at weekends.
    Good luck!

My understanding is that the train operating company can remove trains from the timetable up to midnight the night before (or something like that).

This could well mean that the booked train was removed from the timetable sometime after you bought the ticket.

Rather disingenuous of the train operator to say 'that train is not in the timetable', when they should of course come clean and explain exactly what happened.

As your train was cancelled, and you decided not to travel, you may claim against whoever you bought the ticket from. Your claim is not against TPE who cancelled the train

We did travel, we just got the other train which was an hour late, on the return journey it was also an hour late and we had to change at Carlisle and ending up standing up all the way home as it was packed due to further cancelled trains, just thought it would be stress free instead of driving, that was wrong, lost all interest in any sort compensation and train travel,  but thanks all for your input

If you used the online delay repay system the rejection is probably automated as it can't match up the delay to an actual running service.

Claim again, but as an email and complaint to Transpennine with the details as outlined and with timings to show the delay.
