Class 4 NIC required for side gig?

in Cutting tax
I am completing my self-assessment. Alongside my main job in 2021/22 I did some consultancy bringing in £3500, against which I am claiming £1000 trading income allowance. Working through the form it says on the page "Class 4 National Insurance Contributions (NICs)" that since none of the exemptions apply to me (being old or young, non-resident, trustee or a diver) I have to pay Class 4 contributions. That surprised me - I assumed (naively?) that I would only have to pay tax on this side gig. Is it right that I have to pay more NIC?, or maybe when it comes to the calculation page will it say I am liable for Class 4 but with £0 payable because my profits were below £6,725?

You are a bit confused. You would normally be liable to Class 4 NI on your business profits.
But the threshold isn't £6,725 for 2021:22.

I think you're getting confused with Class 2 NI.
Class 4 isn't voluntary and the threshold isn't £65150 -
If you are below the threshold for class 2, you have no class 4 liability either.0

I'm below the threshold so, confused or not about classes, the self-assessment form said I do not have to pay NICs.
