Hi all,
Just wondering if the following seems a bit expensive:
1 SUPPLY OF PHOTOVOLTAIC SYSTEM (5.93 kWp)
15 x TRINA SOLAR 395W VERTEX S
1 x HUAWEI 5KW HYBRID
2x HUAWEI HUAWEI LUNA2000 5KWH BATTERY MODULE
15 x HUAWEI 450W OPTIMISER
1 x EMLITE BI-DIRECTIONAL METER ECA2.NV
1 x K2 VARIO
All for £13730 (£1200 of this is for scaffolding)
I'm debating the battery, but not sure how useful it will be, and whether it may be worth knocking it to 1 battery.
I think he said roughly £4000 less without battery. This is all from a local supplier.
I had another quote from World of solar:
Total of 14 Panels ( 14 x Hyundai 480W ) = 6.72kW
Full installation including all access equipment
MCS certification
HIES 10 year maximum consumer protection
EPVS validation certificate
25 Year Panel Performance Warranty
5 Year Fox Inverter Warranty +5 year online upgrade to 10
All roof fixings/cabling/meter/Isolators/Ancillaries
2 years Workmanship Warranty
Previous Customer Discount x 1
5 x Tigo Optimisers
1 X High Voltage Hybrid Solar Inverter
The above is £9300, and then £11999 with 6.5kW Growatt battery, which going by other discussions is not a battery I will be considering.
I use around 6500-7000 kW per year. Family members do work from home, but also a good amount of electricity used during the evening. Roof faces are SW/SE, and we should have enough space for a 6kW system.
The above quotes seem to be more than what other people are getting, and by a fair amount.
I am based in Birmingham, so if anyone knows of any decent suppliers, I would appreciate a heads up.
I have requested a couple more quotes, but getting them is like drawing blood from stone. A few people have not got back to me, and 1 company kept making recommendations via whatsapp, but after asking for a price 3 times, he just ignored me.
Appreciate any help.

This has increased a bit in line with demand - but that should give you an idea. Options like optimization and diverters obviously add to this cost.PV total 19.8 kW system:
23 x 420W East/West split over two flat roof areas at 10 degrees inclination.
13 x 390W South spit over two flat roof areas at 5 to 20 degrees inclination.
6 x 390W south wall mounted at 90 degrees inclination.
7 x 390W West wall mounted at 90 degrees inclination.
2 x 5 kW hybrid inverters
4 x 9.5 kWh batteries (38 kWh total)0 -
Do you have any shading of the roof on which the panels are being installed? If not, then I would suggest a quote without the optimisers. I had a similar installation of 6.4kWp of REC panels, 5kw inverter and 10kw battery for about £11k without optimisers. That was installed in Feb, but prices appear to have gone up since.
6.4kWp (16 * 400Wp REC Alpha) facing ESE + 5kW Huawei inverter + 10kWh Huawei battery. Buckinghamshire.0 -
The way the panels will be set-up and the roof design will result in very slight shading on a few of the panels.
The guy who quoted 13k seems like a nice chap, but that's still 2.5k more than you paid - have prices really gone up by that much?
I'll ask him again and see if we can bring it down a tad and see if I can get a price breakdown as well.
And just in case it's missed in my original post, anyone know of an installer in the midlands that they could recommend?
Thanks0 -
I tried local installers in the West Midlands struggled to get any interest and like you ended up in whatsapp chats with no progress. Ended up going with light renewables as although they haven't got a glowing reputation on here it seems like they basically do a good job but you need to chase the paperwork. As export isn't going to be that lucrative for me the SEG stuff is not a priority.8kw system spread over 6 roofs , surrounded by trees and in a valley.1
