Joint mortgage help

Options
My husband would like to help our son get on the property ladder by getting a joint mortgage in name only that our son will live in and pay for. My son has only been working for a year and both he and my husband are self employed freelancers - can anyone let me know if you think this will be problematic when it comes to finding a lender please

@muddlingthrough What you have described (a parent going on the mortgage to improve borrowing capacity) is not by itself problematic with the right lenders/products.

However there are couple of different ways of doing it depending on whether the parent wants/needs to go on the deeds or not. For example if the parent is already a homeowner, then by staying off the deeds the son can take advantage of FTB stamp duty relief, avoid having to pay a 3% stamp duty surcharge, etc.
