Solar Panel Quote

Options
Hi All

I just had a quote from a solar panel company (who shall remain nameless for now) and I thought it was a bit high.

I was wondering if you guys could tell me if it is just over the odds or whether they've had my pants down?  I live in Wales and have a large, south facing roof on a hill so a dream spot for panels

Anyway the quote was

14 x 5.6KW panels
Hybrid INverter
6Kw Batter

Total = £15,601

The battery was £5k plus £550 for scaffolding

What do you guys think?

I'm afraid you shouldn't go into the village as you may get done for indecent exposure.
    Definitely pants pulled down.

    5.6kw solar maybe £6k
    6kw battery maybe £3k
I'll be generous and say £1k for a hybrid inverter,  so still only £10k.

If you are not a high user of electricity  , say over 4500kwh a year, the battery is unlikely to be worthwhile,  so maybe get a quote for just panels

Thanks very much. I thought it was high.

We are a high usage because we both work from home and recently bought a hot tub (eek) so our estimated usage is above 7500Kwh

I think a battery may be useful for us, we generally use 12-15Kwh per day (with hot tub off) so would a battery benefit us?

    Thanks!

Jeez that is high, I'm paying 14k for 18 panels 7.2kW, Tigo optimisers, two inverters and 2 x 9.5kW batteries - walk away!!
    PV total 19.8 kW system:
23 x 420W East/West split over two flat roof areas at 10 degrees inclination.
13 x 390W South spit over two flat roof areas at 5 to 20 degrees inclination.
6 x 390W south wall mounted at 90 degrees inclination.
7 x 390W West wall mounted at 90 degrees inclination.
    2 x 5 kW hybrid inverters
    4 x 9.5 kWh batteries (38 kWh total)
  • Yep agree with the others here. I’d say around £9k - £10k based on that setup.

Thanks guys.  It was Planet solar and the guy was pressuring me to sign up right away. Put me right off them!

Eon have actually quoted 9k for 14 panels but at 5.04Kw and a 2.6Kw battery which seems a lot more sensible but I’m wondering if such a small battery has any point at all

I think you would be better with a solar diverter and use it to heat the hot tub tbh.
If you are both at home then you can do things like running the washing machine etc when it's sunny, and a solar diverter is £400 for the best one (imo) the my energy eddi, thought there are other diverters for cheaper.

I'm not sure you would get the ebenefit required to justify batteries.

If you were using 15kw a day and no-one was at home meaning you are using it all in the evening then I'd be more in favour of batteries.

Might be a bit controversial, but I think hot-tubs should be banned. They are just about the most wasteful use of energy (apart from maybe bitcoin trading).

Back on topic - I agree, that quote is very high.

Has anyone got any knowledge of air source heat pumps for hot tubs
